Friends of Central Library
Manatee County

The Friends of Central Library of Manatee County started in 1970 with a small group of library  patrons originally named the Friends of Bradenton Library.  They began by hosting an annual brunch as a fundraiser.  Then moved to raising funds by an annual booksale.  Today your Friends raise funds thru their bookstore located on the first floor of the Central Libary as well as membership dues and your donations.
The methods may have changed but the goal to promote better relations between the library and its patrons and to raise funds for items not in the county budget remains the same today.

A little help from your Friends...

  • The Friends have used the funds raised to sponsor many of the library's programs  such as the summer youth programs and adult computer classes.
  • Every year the Friends purchase annual yearbooks from all local schools for the library.
  • In past years Friends of Central Library was a sponsor for the annual Manacon event.
  • In 2010 the Friends paid for the renovation of the the Central Library's Children's Room.
  • In 2017 the friends donated money for the acquistion of a 3D printer for the Central Library's Maker Room.
